The School of Agriculture and Food Sciences is one of the largest Schools of this type in Australia, comprising research and teaching experts in animal science, plant and soil science, agricultural business, environmental science and food, nutrition and technology: contributing to UQ being ranked as the top university in Australia for Agriculture and Environmental Science, with global rankings in the 2013 QS subject ranking of 18th in Agriculture and 11th in Environmental Science. With a diverse group of internationally regarded scientists located at Gatton and St Lucia, our researchers deliver knowledge, skills and techniques that provide solutions to global challenges in animal and wildlife science, climate change, feeding the world, managing the environment, replacing fossil fuels with biofuels, maintaining biodiversity and supporting economic and community development. The School has a strong research profile and a close association with the Queensland Alliance for Agriculture and Food Innovation (QAAFI) a joint initiative between UQ and the Queensland State Government.

As a part of major initiative, the School is now seeking to appoint an academic in Equine Science to extend our capacity in equine reproduction, breeding, nutrition and exercise physiology.

The role

The successful applicant will contribute to (and for Levels C, provide leadership to) the teaching and research activities in the fields of Equine and Animal Science in the School and the University. The applicant will work with the Head of School and the Animal Science group, as well as with other staff members in the School, to develop and implement the School's strategic plan, and to enhance the teaching and research programs in Animal Sciences. Located at the UQ Gatton campus, the appointee will be responsible for undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, course coordination, and program development; and will be expected to contribute substantially to the national and international research profile of the School, supervise research students, obtain external grant funding and undertake professional activities.

The person

Applicants should possess a PhD in Equine or Animal Science or a related field, and have post-doctoral experience in Animal Science. Applicants should also demonstrate evidence of teaching skills at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, effective supervision of research students and have a strong research portfolio in Equine/Animal Sciences.

Remuneration

This  appointment is on a full-time, continuing basis. The appointment will be made at Academic Level B or C depending on the qualifications and experience of the successful applicant.  The remuneration package will be in the range of:

  • Academic Level B: $93,984 - $111,607 p.a., plus employer superannuation contributions of 17% (total package will be in the range $109,963 - $130,580 p.a.)
  • Academic Level C: $115,131 - $132,753 p.a.; plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total package will be in the range $134,704 - $155,322 p.a.)
