Background to the projects/Overall purpose of the Job:
The Nanomedicine Laboratory’s mission (www.nanomedicinelab.com) is to generate and disseminate fundamental knowledge in the emerging fields of bioengineering & nanotechnology and its translation as advanced diagnostics and therapeutics. Components used include DNA, RNA, viruses, stem cells, radionuclides, liposomes, carbon, gold and other nanomaterials. The research efforts taking place within the Nanomedicine Lab are bridging the gap between fundamental nanomaterials engineering and biomedical applications towards the clinical realisation of advanced therapeutic modalities.
The Project Manager will work with Professor Kostarelos to co-ordinate and manage the work of the Nanomedicine Laboratory. The post-holder will focus on the management of the EPSRC funded programme grant ‘2D Material for Next Generation Healthcare Technologies’ in order to achieve the deliverables and milestones set and within budget, but will also assist Prof Kostarelos in managing with the development of the rest of the existing grants, studentships, donations, the Lab Business Case (SIRF account) and new project applications that the Laboratory will submit.
Key to this stimulating yet challenging role will be the development of detailed project plans, the management and coordination of complex interdisciplinary tasks, the coordination of multiple stakeholders across many disciplines and sectors (including clinicians, academics, industrialists, students, researchers, and the project funders) and the ability to collaborate with, and when necessary influence, senior academics. Skill and dexterity in this role are essential to ensure the projects are delivered on time, to scope and with high impact.
