Oxford Brookes University is acting as the Lead Institution for the Office for Students (OfS) funded National Collaborative Outreach Programme (NCOP) covering Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and Swindon. The partnership “Study Higher” is part of a nationwide programme that aims to provide programmes of collaborative outreach in specific, local areas where higher education participation is low overall and lower than would be expected given GCSE (KS4) attainment rates, with the intention of boosting HE participation rates by young people from the most disadvantaged backgrounds.

We would like to appoint a Study Higher Liaison Manager who will be one of two Liaison Manager's supporting the Head of Study Higher with the overall direction and running of the programme. 

The Study Higher Liaison Manager will be responsible for setting the strategic direction for relationships with a portfolio of schools and related institutions across Oxfordshire and Swindon as well as the management of a team of Higher Education Liaison Officers delivering programmes of outreach across the region. The post holder will be the first point of contact for queries from partner universities, and will oversee the monitoring and evaluation of projects run by their team.

The post holder will be based at Oxford Brookes University but will work to represent all partners within the network. They will also ensure that the Study Higher offer is appropriate and that activities delivered are monitored and evaluated effectively, and presented in an impartial way on behalf of the partner universities. They will need to have a significant understanding of access and progression issues with regard to higher education.

You will be: 

  • Leading on the development and implementation of the school and college-based strands of the Study Higher programme, producing an activity and student targeting strategy with appropriate identified targets. 
  • Establishing and maintaining strategic relationships with partner secondary schools and colleges on behalf of the Study Higher partnership, including attending events and meetings and, where appropriate, delivering presentations and workshops to students 
  • Managing the Higher Education Liaison Officers, managing all aspects of setting objectives, training and performance management.
  • Developing a detailed knowledge of the educational opportunities and challenges in the Oxfordshire and Swindon regions, including establishing links with third sector organisations, local FE Colleges, skills and employer agencies.

You will have:

  • A significant understanding of access and progression issues with regard to higher education.
  • Substantial experience and understanding of inter-agency collaboration with a varied range of stakeholders
  • Experience of line managing staff
  • Excellent inter-personal and communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively with a range of partners at all levels
  • Project management skills including the ability to deal with challenging situations and competing deadlines
