The Engineering and Technology Research Institute seeks to appoint a Research Assistant in Advanced Laser Engraving Processes to work on a collaborative research and development project with an industrial lead partner on a fixed term contract.

The project involves undertaking experimental work in the development of advanced laser engraving processes for the improvement of Anilox rolls. The position will involve setting up laser processing systems, the design of experiments, analysis of materials using SEM, AFM, optical microscopy and other relevant techniques.

You should hold a PhD degree in a related field with experience of either macro or micro laser processing. Experience of setting up laser systems is essential with experience of micromachining and the setting up of instruments for process monitoring desirable. You should have experience in writing journal papers and technical reports and be confident attending project meetings and visiting industrial collaborators and subcontractors. This may require overseas travel.
