USQ is a young, dynamic university and in less than 50 years, has become a prominent teaching and research institution providing education worldwide. Under the new leadership of the current Vice-Chancellor and proudly supporting purpose-built facilities and infrastructure such as the Agricultural Science and Engineering Precinct and the Mount Kent Observatory, the University is well positioned to achieve continued growth and excellence in research across a number of discipline areas.

Building on the solid foundations and successes of the outgoing Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research and Innovation), together with the implementation of an ambitious strategic plan, the University will fulfil its overarching purpose to lead in economic and social development through higher education and research excellence.

As we embark on this next phase of development, we are seeking an engaging and inspiring leader with an outstanding research and innovation track record and high level interpersonal skills to successfully motivate, develop and empower staff to achieve excellence in research performance.

Reporting to the Vice-Chancellor, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation) provides leadership across the research portfolio to ensure the University achieves its strategic outcomes. The position will inspire the University’s research community and drive the development and implementation of research policies, strategies and programs to build organisational capability and capacity and strengthen the research and innovation culture within the University.

To succeed in this role, you will have a strong academic track record in research, teaching and engagement and a demonstrated track record of leadership at the senior executive level within a tertiary institution or research organisation. This will be complemented by leadership and management experience across a wide range of academic disciplines and a proven record of success in building and enhancing capability, performance and outcomes in research, innovation and commercialisation endeavours.

This is an exciting opportunity to join an agile and innovative university during a time of renewal. It presents the chance to build on the strong foundations of research activity currently in place and to further develop the significant potential across the University and the regions it serves.
