Stanford Medical Center Development supports Stanford Medicine, which includes the School of Medicine, a premier research-intensive medical school, and Stanford Health Care, an adult hospital that is nationally recognized for quality patient care and leading-edge technology.  We also work in collaboration and coordination with development at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford.

We seek experienced candidates, with strong preference for those with paralegal skills and backgrounds, for a Development Officer position on the Corporate, Foundation, and Association Relations (CFAR) team.  CFAR works closely with faculty and administrators to facilitate and manage philanthropic engagement with corporate, foundation, and association constituents. Our work spans the medical enterprise and requires active and collaborative work with many allied campus offices, including the central development office, sponsored research and tech licensing/industrial contracts. JOB PURPOSE:

  • Collaborate with faculty, donors, volunteers, and university staff to raise financial support from corporations, foundations, and associations for assigned accounts. Operate independently in assigned areas with responsibility for a small portfolio of corporate and foundation funders, including prospect identification, cultivation and solicitations, proposal development coordination of internal support activities.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Participating in development of strategies and proposals for a portfolio of assigned corporate, foundation and/or association prospects. Cultivating soliciting, and stewarding their support.
  • Collaborating with faculty in development, maintenance and enhancement of relationships with corporate and foundation funders.
  • Researching, identifying and responding to opportunities for support from corporations and foundations, seeking alignment between donor interests and university needs.
  • Working with fundraisers, stewardship, marketing and event staff in the planning and implementation of donor cultivation and stewardship visits and events.
  • Preparing background information and materials to assist with briefings, visits and other research and stewardship activities.
  • Working closely with director and associate directors, other university offices (e.g., sponsored research, industrial contracts), in order to collaborate effectively with external funders and ensure proposals and agreements comply with university policy.
  • Collaborating with other development colleagues to align program goals with the overall giving goals of the university’s development organization.
  • Developing and designing systems to track solicitation assignments and progress.
  • Other duties may also be assigned

To be successful in this position, you will bring:

  • Bachelor's degree and three years of relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Paralegal skills and experience (strongly preferred and highly desired).
  • Ability to develop effective skills in corporate and/or foundation prospect identification, relationship building, and solicitation.
  • Experience mentoring and working with volunteers, faculty, and staff.
  • Ability to work within a complex environment with competing university and funder agendas.
  • Ability to prepare select agreements for management approval; conduct initial review and issue spotting of select agreements from funders.
  • Ability to resolve problems arising in the course of the project; consult with departmental administrators, faculty and staff.
  • Desire to collaborate with allied campus offices to deliver excellent services to faculty and research administration community.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with exceptional attention to detail and the ability to articulate a compelling case for philanthropic support programs.
  • Ability to translate complex concepts into compelling development proposals and agreements.
  • Ability to work effectively with faculty, top executives, and community leaders.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in an organized fashion.
  • Advanced ability with Microsoft Office suite and Adobe PDF.
  • Valid California Non-commercial Class C Driver's License

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:

  • Frequently perform desk-based computer tasks, sit, and use a telephone, stand/walk.
  • Occasionally light/fine grasping, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds, writing by hand.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • May require working flexible hours, including nights and weekends. Regular travel may be required.
