An exciting opportunity has become available to join our 5G research and development team at the Institute for Communication Systems (ICS) home of the 5G Innovation Centre (5GIC).
ICS has been established for over ten years as one of a number of autonomous research centres at the University of Surrey, housing some 160 researchers, PhD students and academic staff with research focused on future communication systems including mobile and wireless communications, satellite communications, and networking (management, protocols and security).
We are seeking to recruit a full time manager for our state-of-the-art 5GIC test bed, initially until 31st March 2021, to join our team and be responsible for the management and commissioning of the test bed and its associated R&D programme of work.
5GIC brings together leading academics and key industry partners in a shared vision to help define and develop the 5G infrastructure that will underpin the way we communicate, work and live our everyday lives in the future. The 5GIC will drive the delivery of a mobile communications and wireless connectivity capable of meeting the needs of tomorrow’s connected society and digital economy.
The 5GIC test bed is the world’s leading independent testbed for trialling emerging 5G ideas, proving concepts, validating standards and vendor inter-operability testing. This equips researchers with a fully functioning advanced 4G network which has been upgraded to a fully-fledged 5G system, enabling the development and testing of 5G prototype technologies in a real-world situation. The testbed covers an area of 4km2 comprising indoor and outdoor environments and supports broadband mobile and IoT.
