We are seeking to appoint a Trial Manager for an NIHR funded feasibility study to examine the potential to improve the health of care leavers by providing a brief training intervention to the social care staff responsible for them – Personal Advisers. This post offers an excellent opportunity for an experienced research leader to join a multidisciplinary team within the University of Bristol, and collaborators at participating local authorities and health Trusts.
This NIHR trial falls under the auspices of the Health Services and Delivery Research Programme, in response to a call for studies to help improve health and social care services support for the transition of looked after children and young people leaving care. The trial is structured with an initial phase (year one) which will focus on developing and testing the feasibility of the intervention, following by a feasibility trial to determine the appropriateness of seeking funding for a Phase III randomised trial.
Based within the School for Policy Studies, and with support from the Bristol Randomised Trials Collaboration (BRTC, a UKCRC-registered trials unit), the post holder will be accountable for making sure that the trial is conducted to the highest possible standards and complies with all regulatory requirements and good clinical practice. The task of the Trial Manager is to lead all aspects of the trial, to liaise with the PI, collaborators, trial management committees, health and local authority staff to oversee set up, and to ensure recruitment and follow-up targets are achieved within the proposed time frame in a properly conducted trial.
The post holder will have substantial experience in research, experience of successful trial management and the proven ability to apply leadership. Good communication skills are required as the successful candidate will be working with colleagues in other organisations as well as liaising with research staff, clinicians and collaborating academics, and with peer researchers (care experienced young people. In addition, the post-holder will prepare update reports for the management team and the funder, and be expected to play a major part in disseminating findings, presenting at conferences and contributing substantially to publications. The post provides the opportunity for autonomy and freedom to act independently with organisational policies and will require excellent interpersonal and negotiating skills. You will be able to demonstrate an ability to organise and motivate others, and to take a high level of responsibility and have a good first degree in a relevant subject or equivalent and an MSc or PhD in a relevant subject or equivalent professional experience.
This is a full time, open ended position with fixed funding from 01/04/2019 - 31/03/2022.
