Professor of Electronic Engineering - UESTC 

The School of Engineering is seeking a Professor of Electronic Engineering who will undertake internationally leading, self-sustaining research in electronics, microelectronics or electronic systems in the UK and China. Alongside teaching and administrative tasks, these will be associated with the education programmes delivered through the Glasgow College UESTC, a Joint Education Institute located on the UESTC Qingshuihe campus in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, PR China and with the School of Engineering at the Gilmorehill campus in Glasgow.

The partnership between the University of Glasgow and the University of Electronic Science Technology in Chengdu (UESTC), China started in 2013. The Glasgow College UESTC is now responsible for the education of more than 1700 undergraduate students, growing to more than 2100 in the steady state.  

The collaboration also encompasses a growing research portfolio and it is intended that the appointee will build a research activity in Glasgow and play a leading role in expanding research links between the two universities. They will have an outstanding track record of leadership of research in electronics, microelectronics or electronic systems, particularly in areas such as electronic and optoelectronic systems, sensor systems, e-health, autonomous systems or AI. 

This post is based at the main campus of the University of Glasgow, with a requirement of the post that the appointee will travel regularly to the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC) in Chengdu, PR China. It is expected that the appointee will travel to UESTC around 8-10 times per annum for visits typically of 9 days duration, but longer or more frequent visits may be required to meet operational demands, and in building and growing research links with UESTC.

Standard Terms & Conditions 

The appointment will be subject to the whole powers and conditions of any Act of Parliament, Ordinances, and Law affecting the University. The appointment is a whole-time appointment, the Professor undertaking to accept paid outside work only with the prior consent of the University Court. This provision does not apply to examinerships and such other appointments as are incidental to the ordinary course of University business.

This post is full time and open ended.

Salary will be within the professorial range and subject to negotiation.

The successful applicant will be eligible to join the Universities' Superannuation Scheme. Further information regarding the scheme is available from the Superannuation Officer, who is also prepared to advise on questions relating to the transfer of Superannuation benefits. 

All research and related activities, including grants, donations, clinical trials, contract research, consultancy and commercialisation are required to be managed through the University's relevant processes (e.g. contractual and financial), in accordance with the University Court's policies.
