A Postdoctoral Research Associate position is available to work on an EPSRC-funded project entitled “Underpinning Mechanistic Studies of NHC-Organocatalysis: A Breslow Intermediate Reactivity Scale”. The project will require the design and synthesis of a broad range of N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) and bis-aminocyclopropenylidene (BAC) precursors and related analogues. The overarching goal is to develop kinetic understanding of synthetically relevant processes that require ‘Breslow Intermediate’ formation using NHCs and BACs as catalysts. You will be required to conduct detailed kinetic analyses using a range of spectroscopic techniques, including time-resolved methods, together with data handling, modelling and fitting.

The work will be supervised by Dr AnnMarie O’Donoghue (www.durham.ac.uk/chemistry/staff). The project involves close collaboration between Dr O’Donoghue in Durham University and Prof. Andrew Smith in the University of St Andrews.

The post is a 36-month PDRA position available from 01 April 2019 until 31 March 2022. Funding is available for this fixed period only.

Closes midday on : 12-Mar-2019
