A full time Research Associate post (grade I) is available for 6 months maternity cover funded by the British Heart Foundation. The post is within the Bristol Medical School and the Research Associate will be based in the Bristol Heart Institute on Research Floor Level 7 of the Queens Building of the Bristol Royal Infirmary. The role holder will work in the research group of Dr Jason Johnson, attached to his British Heart Foundation Senior Basic Science Research Fellowship examining the roles of differing monocyte/macrophage subsets delineated by their proteolytic profile, in a range of over-lapping inflammatory cardiovascular diseases. They will require experience in cell isolation and flow cytometry, tissue culture including culture of primary cells and ex vivo culture models, cell behaviour assays including proliferation, invasion and apoptosis, and histological analysis including microtomy, histological stains and immunohistochemistry. Importantly, the appointed candidate will hold an existing Home Office Personal License and have proven extensive experience with animal models of cardiovascular disease. The PDRA will require demonstrable experience in research article preparation and oral presentations, through previous publication of manuscripts in high-impact scientific journals.
