Job Details

Northumbria University is looking to appoint an outstanding Policing scholar to its Criminology team. Among our particular research strengths are matters relating to styles and models of Policing, Digital Policing, Forensics in Policing, and the Policing of Vulnerable communities. We recognise that these are complex and multi-faceted areas and welcome applicants who can demonstrate experience of a range of methodological approaches and inter-disciplinarily. Some of our existing strengths are outlined in relation to the work of the Police Research and Education Network and can be found at https://www.northumbria.ac.uk/research/police-research-and-education-network/. We are looking for an outstanding candidate, to join our team who can make a significant contribution to developing the research profile, and partnership developments both domestic and international.

Vice Chancellor’s Research Fellows are permanent positions with a significant focus on research in the first three years of the appointment, to encourage the development of major projects that bring colleagues together at Northumbria and beyond.

You will hold a PhD or equivalent, and will already be developing a publication track record of exceptional quality. It is essential that you have excellent written and verbal communication skills; some relevant teaching experience; the ability to work effectively with colleagues; and the potential to attract external funding to support the future development of your research. During the first three years of the appointment, you will develop a small amount of teaching and administration, as required within a vibrant Department. After the first three years you will progress as a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in the Department of Social Sciences.
