Applications are invited for a Research Associate in Image Analysis Techniques for Analysing Bone Shape, in the Division of Informatics, Imaging and Data Sciences. The post will be tenable on a fixed term basis for 3 years in the first instance.

You will join the Centre for Imaging Sciences and take responsibility for a defined area of research, under the supervision of Professor Tim Cootes. You will contribute to a collaboration with research groups in Bristol, Southampton and Aberdeen to analyse DXA images from approximately 100,000 volunteers in the UKBiobank Imaging study (www.ukbiobank.ac.uk). The study is currently collecting DXA images of the knees, hips and spine of each participant. You will be responsible for developing and validating fully automatic systems for annotating the shapes of the bones in each image. You should be able to interact effectively with researchers from a range of disciplines to develop the programme of research.

You will hold a PhD, or be expected to do so by the time of commencing the post, or have equivalent experience, in a relevant numerate or biomedical research area. You should have a background in quantitative scientific data analysis, computer vision, medical image analysis, or machine learning and have previous experience in programming in C, C++, Matlab, Python or similar languages. Experience of scientific algorithm/methods design and statistical evaluation and a developing publication record would be advantageous.
