About This Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a marketing and communications officer to join the N8 Centre of Excellence for Computationally Intensive Research (N8 CIR; https://n8cir.org.uk/) on a five year fixed term contract. This new Centre follows on from N8 HPC, part of the N8 Research Partnership, and will further expand on research collaboration and networking between the 8 institutions. N8 CIR will focus on three areas:

  • Bringing together researchers from across N8 in specific research areas to collaborate on identifying common opportunities in carrying out computationally intensive research
  • The potential for N8 universities to work together to tackle issues surrounding the provision of computationally intensive resources such as cloud
  • The production of software, tools and resources to further computationally intensive research across N8

You will work with the Centre Programme Manager to communicate N8 CIR activities across the 8 institutions in order to ensure that stakeholders are aware of the Centre, its purpose, its activities and its outcomes. You will help to formulate and deliver a comprehensive communications and engagement plan that will support the Centre. The role holder will work collaboratively with the N8 research community, the N8 CIR Project Director Group and other governance groups to ensure the success of the Centre.

The role is hands on and requires an ability to multitask and prioritise work as well as working in a diverse organisation. The range of duties will include those listed below:

  • Maintaining relationships and keeping stakeholder communication channels (including social media) up to date
  • Writing newsletters, articles, case studies and website content for N8 CIR stakeholders
  • Creation of N8 CIR advertising materials including leaflets, event posters, publicity information posters and fliers
  • Organising N8 CIR workshops and events
  • Editing the N8 CIR website
  • Ensuring consistent levels of engagement
  • Reviewing communications plan and strategy

Person Specifications — Essential:

Qualifications and Experience

  • Evidence of producing similar outputs and materials.

Skills and Competencies

  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Good communication skills - both written and oral
  • Good competency in the use of Microsoft Office for producing documents, presentations and promotional material
  • Experience of updating and adding content to websites
  • Experience of using a range of social media channels

Be able to:

  • Take the initiative, be proactive, take appropriate action and anticipate problems and opportunities;
  • Work as an effective part of a team;
  • Establish productive relationships with people from a variety of backgrounds and with a variety of skills, including other IT Services staff, academics, researchers and PGRs;
