Job description

The University is offering 2 early career artists residences for ex-graduates. The short-term residences are to support the successful candidates to make new work as an artist or ceramicist and develop their career objectives as creative practitioners. The residencies will be based in the School of Art, Design & Fashion and have negotiated access to workshops and facilities in Victoria and Hanover Buildings, the Hanover Mac suite, the Media Factory and the University library facilities. Successful candidates will work alongside our current students and discuss the progress of their projects with students in the School.

The Fine Art residency will be based in the Hanover Building studios. We are interested in proposals related to painting, animation, performance, artists' books, installation /sculpture, sound, drawing and moving image.
The Ceramics residency will be based in the specialist and well-equipped ceramics workshop in Victoria Building. This is adjacent to the design and fashion teaching areas and in close proximity to the design and print workshops and PR1 gallery space.

We are looking to support areas of innovative practice and to provide support for former students working in creative fields. You will be a recent graduate (within the last 3 years) from the BA Fine Art or MA Ceramics courses at the University of Central Lancashire. You will have begun to establish a practice as an artist and started to develop links with galleries and creative organisations.

The successful applicants will have excellent oral and written communication skills and have the ability to work as part of a team as well as using their own initiative. A Professional approach to studio practice is essential as well as an awareness of contemporary developments in Fine Art or Design practice.

Applicants should submit a project outline with the application form describing how you intend to develop your work over the 3 month residency period and what access to resources you would need. These will be discussed in more depth at the interview stage. Applications should be supported by 5 images of recent work (Jpeg) - please email these to HResources@uclan.ac.uk as they cannot be attached to the application form.

Applicants need to meet all essential criteria on the person specification to be considered for interview. This position is based in Preston.
