Job Summary

The appointment is for a (Associate or Full) research scientist with a specialization in manufacturing robotics and control.

The appointment is for 50% effort for three years. Salary range of $100,000 - $150,000 full-time rate.

The Barton/Tilbury Smart Manufacturing research group has a significant growth profile with 5 current projects (funding 1 postdoc and 6 graduate students) and 5 pending research projects. A research scientist with industry and research experience would provide important industry perspective as well as help with development of new research directions and project management of our project portfolio.

Responsibilities*

  • Assist with developing and leading new research projects that align with identified industry needs
  • Aid in project management for several on-going research projects in Smart Manufacturing
  • Provide guidance and industry perspective to the graduate students
  • Provide guidance and industry perspective to MDP (Multidisciplinary Design Program) students
  • Support industry relationships, including indentifying industrially-relevant research challenges
  • Help write new proposals to acquire funding support for this position and support students conducting research in our group

Required Qualifications*

  • We are looking for someone with a minimum of 10 years of experience in the manufacturing (preferably automotive) industry, with significant experience interacting with academic or industry research.
  • Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
