The University of Chester has embarked on an ambitious project to transform its commercial agenda. This covers the generation, protection and exploitation of intellectual property, collaborative research and development, business development, business support and business incubation. The Commercial Operations directorate has been formed to advance this project, and seeks interactions with a wide range of innovative businesses to leverage the skills and expertise at the University for mutual benefit. 

You will join a Business Development team working at Thornton Science Park and focused on attracting new clients to the University, stimulating collaboration between clients and the Faculty of Science and Engineering and working with SMEs to support their growth and success. BD work to develop the Energy Centre, to develop innovative ideas from the Faculty and to support collaboration and impact in the key sector areas of energy, automotive, advanced manufacturing and environmental technologies are also important areas of delivery for the role.

The University works within a consortium to deliver support to SME’s in Cheshire through two part-funded ERDF projects – the Cheshire & Warrington Business Growth Programme (C&W BGP), and the Innovation to Commercialisation Programme (I2C).

Working with the wider Commercial Operations team, the post-holder will be responsible for engendering a vibrant, entrepreneurial industrial network at the Thornton Science Park and embodying a professional approach that demonstrates unequivocally that the University is an important and trustworthy partner to industry.

You will be educated to Honours degree level or equivalent in a STEM discipline and ideally hold a Postgraduate qualification. You will have significant experience of working in or with innovative or high tech businesses, and of working at the interface between academia and industry. You will have a proven track record of developing relationships and generating commercial outcomes, and will display excellent interpersonal and team working skills.
