This is an exciting time to join us at Durham University. We currently have a number of part time, fixed term vacancies for Café Assistants. Please see the attached document for details of the current roles we have available.

We are a team of over 500, providing fresh and exciting catering throughout Durham University. This includes college dining halls, college bars, college cafés, visitor attractions and branded retail catering outlets.

Our students are extremely important to us but we also provide catering to University colleagues, commercial guests, and VIPs including royalty.

Café Assistants are responsible for providing a professional, responsive and efficient customer-facing catering service to students, staff and visitors, ensuring that food service areas are presented, served, replenished and cleaned to an exceptional standard and in line with standard operating procedures.

Café Assistants are a key front-line member of the catering team and will be expected to adopt and promote a flexible approach to working, be willing to cover absences (when given reasonable notice) and to undertake any or all of the tasks outlined below regardless of their designated shift.

We are looking for people who will promote a positive image of University Catering and the University. The posts will be based in one of the University Colleges. See the attached Job Description for full details about the role and working at Durham University.

Working in the catering team requires an element of physical manual handling, which can include lifting and transporting catering equipment.

Working Hours, Shifts and Rates of Pay

We currently have 3 Café Assistant vacancies:

Position 1 - Palatine Cafe 
Café Assistant 
27.5 hrs per week 
Fixed Term (Maternity Cover) 6 months 
Any 5 days out of 7 which may include some occasional weekends & evenings 
Typical hours between 7am to 5.30pm

Position 2 - Palatine Café 
Café Assistant 
32.5 hrs per week, 52 weeks per year 
Fixed Term 12 months 
Any 5 days out of 7 which may include some occasional weekends & evenings 
Typical hours between 7am to 5.30pm

Position 3 - Lower Mountjoy Café (Chemistry) 
Café Assistant 
30 hrs per week 
Fixed Term 6 months 
Any 5 days out of 7 which may include some occasional weekends & evenings 
Typical hours between 7am to 5.30pm

Because these positions are part time, the salary will be pro rata to the full time salary range shown in the Job Description.
