Job description

Professor A central part of this role is to undertake internationally recognised research, providing academic leadership for the Faculty of Health and Wellbeing's programmatic research, focused on quantitative methods (including statistics, operational research or health economics). This will involve leading the development of a research team and collaborating with colleagues and professional bodies to expand research and scientific support activity to advance research across the Faculty in line with its Delivery Plan. For a person meeting NIHR requirements, the post provides the opportunity to lead the Lancashire Clinical Trials Unit as its Director. Essential for the professorial role is experience of research management and administration in a university department or similar educational or research unit, along with experience of research collaboration, for example with NHS or other commercial organisations. Using excellent communication skills and a thorough understanding of quantitative modelling, the successful applicant will have the ability to deal with complex situations, including negotiation and influencing skills, with a flexible approach which responds to the challenges of change. The successful applicant will have a proven track record of successful supervisory experience of research students at doctoral level, securing research funding from a variety of awarding bodies/sponsors and internationally recognised research outputs. A relevant PhD (or equivalent), or relevant Master's Degree (e.g. statistics, operational research, or health economics) with extensive experience in applied research in academia or consultancy, is essential. Professional qualification in statistics, operational research, health economics or other quantitative methods subject relevant to health and full membership of relevant accredited body or bodies in specialist quantitative discipline are also essential.

Reader- Undertaking internationally recognised research focusing on quantitative methods (including statistics, operational research or health economics) will be the primary focus of this role. It will involve supporting the development of a research team and expanding research and scientific support activity with colleagues and professional bodies to advance research across the Faculty in keeping with the Faculty Delivery Plan. The successful candidate will have research experience in a relevant topic, have undertaken research collaboration with NHS or other commercial organisations, had course/module leadership at all academic levels, and supervised research students. Evidence of a strong publication record, success in obtaining competitive research funding as principal investigator, and making presentations at international conferences are essential requirement. Utilising excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills, the successful applicant will contribute to the development of research strategies in the Faculty, lead a team and conduct consultancy in these areas. The successful applicant will possess a PhD (or equivalent) in a specific topic relevant to the Faculty of Health & Wellbeing and a professional Qualification in Quantitative Methods.
