The Department of South Asian Languages and Civilizations at the University of Chicago invites applications for a full-time Lecturer position in the Urdu language. The appointment is expected to start September 1, 2019, and the initial term of appointment will be for one year, with the possibility of renewal.
The Lecturer will teach seven courses: six in the First- and Second-Year Urdu sequences, and a seventh course in an area of the chosen applicant's expertise, e.g., related to the culture or history of the Urdu speaking regions of South Asia, or possibly in the University's Core curriculum.

Duties also include independent studies with advanced students as needed, outreach for the Urdu language program, participating in workshops, colloquia, departmental meetings, and informal events directed toward graduate teaching and development.

The position requires an M.A. or foreign equivalent in a relevant Humanities discipline. At least one year of previous language teaching experience in a University context is desired. Knowledge of Course-Share online interactive program teaching is strongly preferred.
