This is an exciting opportunity for a Masters Graduate in Mechanical/ Design Engineering to transform Wickens into a "Smart Factory" by developing advanced design and automation to diversify the company’s product portfolio. You will work with a Software Development Engineer (KTP Associate), to integrate critical information technologies to support this development.

This position is a 24 month fixed term contract, with £4,000 dedicated training budget tailored towards your personal development and future career.

It designs, manufactures & installs bespoke storage solutions with CE marking & ISO 9001:2015 accreditation, which are supplied to a wide range of industries. Aston University: You will work in a project team from Mechanical Engineering & Design and Computer Science departments based in The School of Engineering and Applied Science, which undertakes cutting-edge multidisciplinary research with real impact.

Location: You will be based predominantly at Wickens Engineering Ltd in Worcester, but will also have access to facilities at Aston University in central Birmingham. Some travel to key clients may also be required.

Candidate Profile : You will have a min. 2.1 Bachelor’s level degree in Mechanical or Design Engineering, and a Masters level qualification in related subject, with the ambition to work toward CEng status. Industrial experience gained through either placement role or previous employment in a mechanical design environment would be an advantage.

Key attributes;

  • Ability to use 3D CAD & modelling software – ideally with experience of Creo and/or Tekla.
  • Knowledge/experience of Design Engineering processes, Design for Manufacture and their automation for efficient use within information management systems. 
  • Knowledge of robotics in manufacturing & programming
  • Knowledge of Software Engineering and programming concepts is desirable to enable communication with the Software Engineering Associate.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organisational skills to take project ownership, co-ordinate work-streams and achieve agreed objectives.
  • Self motivated & confident with good persuasion & negotiation skills
  • Fit in with the organisational culture and present a positive image of the company to clients.
