Job Description

Are you a technician looking for a challenging professional experience to further your career?  If so, joining CERN’s TTE programme may very well give you that challenge.  This position as an Electro-mechanics technician is part of our prestigious TTE programme. 

The Safety Training service (HSE-DI-ST) is in charge of providing training and awareness courses in matter of  health and safety for the entire CERN population. HSE-DI-ST organises, plans, and coordinates classroom, online, and tailor-made courses and provides support on course selection and enrolment procedures to all people working at CERN, regardless of their status. Safety Training is also in charge of the conception, design and the coherence of the course offer.

Functions

After a practical learning period, the candidate will :

  •  work as Instructional Designer within the Safety Training service
  •  collaborate closely with subject matter experts and topic owners to help them identify needs and objectives
  • design, development and revision of the training content to shape it for learning needs
  •  develop ideas to best convey the safety messages (stories, games, quizz, animations, etc.)
  • produce, test and maintain in consultation with subject matter experts, topic owners and trainers
    • online courses and exams
    • slides for classroom courses
  • implement produced courses in CERN's Learning Management Sytem (LMS)
  • create additional communication media in collaboration with CERN's design service to support learning
    • handouts
    • posters
    • animations
    • apps to support learning
  • assure the quality of the communication media produced
    • collecting feedbacks from subject matter experts, topic owners, trainers, testers and learners
    • archiving and versioning of the media to guaranty traceability
    • respecting existing procedures

Qualifications

In order to qualify for this place on the programme you will need to meet the following requirements:

  • You are a national of a CERN Member State or Associate Member State (https://home.cern/about/member-states);
  • You have a Technical Diploma in Instructional Design, Communication Design,  Adult Learning, or a related field (careers.cern/ttediplomas), and no more than 4 years' relevant experience after finishing your diploma;
  • If you are currently studying, you are still eligible to apply, although you are expected to have obtained your qualification by the start of your appointment at CERN;
  • If you hold a BSc or MSc, you are not eligible. However, you may be eligible for the Fellowship Programme.
  • You should have at least a working knowledge of English or French.
  •  Good teamworking abilities.
  • Knowledge of mechanical measurements and 3D drawing software would be an asset but not mandatory 

Additional Information

CERN would very much like to benefit from your expertise, commitment and passion.  In return, CERN will provide you with:

  • An employment contract of one year, renewable for a second year; 
  • On-the-job and formal training at CERN as well as in-house language courses for English and/or French;
  • A take home pay of approximately 3,540 CHF per month (net of tax);
  • Coverage by CERN’s comprehensive health scheme (for yourself, your spouse and children), and membership of the CERN Pension Fund;
  • Depending on your individual circumstances: an installation grant, family, child and infant allowances as well as travel expenses to and from Geneva;
  • 2,5 days of paid leave per month.

Skills require for this job:

  • comprehensive use of IT design tools, proficiency with MS Power Point
  • communication skills, both written and verbal (english and french is an asset)
  • knowledge of learning theories and instructional design methods
  • organise and prioritise work, maintain documentation and folders, attention to details
  • collection and synthesis of information provided by multiple sources
  • IT skills (LMS, SCORM,ticketing tool,...)
  • support of and conversation with customers
