The School of Social and Political Sciences is at the forefront of teaching and research in the social sciences in Australia. The School has a team of dedicated academic and professional staff in the disciplines of Political Science, Criminology, Anthropology and Sociology as well as our allied research centres providing a dynamic and rewarding environment for staff and students.
The appointment of the Lecturer in Criminology will be made through the Melbourne Early Career Academic Fellowship program (MECAF) as defined in section 27 of The University of Melbourne Enterprise Agreement 2013. Staff engaged in this initiative will complete a structured development programme provided by the University within their workload allocation. This program will provide training, supervision and appropriate career and professional development opportunities towards establishing your academic career. The successful candidate will be required to commence teaching within the School in Semester 2, 2019.
The Lecturer in Criminology (Level B) will be a committed, engaging teacher and researcher whose work complements the existing Criminology profile at the University of Melbourne. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels and will assist in the development of new subjects as appropriate; supervision of RHD students is also a requirement. Interest and capacity in teaching first year is also sought. The successful candidate will be expected to make a significant contribution to the research reputation of the Criminology discipline in the School specifically and of the Faculty of Arts more generally and will also undertake research resulting in publications with leading publishers in the field. The successful candidate will foster engagement links with external networks/partners nationally and internationally and will be expected to take on administrative tasks associated with the appointment and perform these responsibly.
