The University of Manchester is the largest single site university in the UK and one of the top universities in the world. With over 10,000 staff and 50,000 students, it is currently engaged in an ambitious £billion campus expansion plan and an exciting £multi-million transformation programme delivering an institution-wide Information Governance / Security, Cyber Security, IT infrastructure & IT operational capability required by a leading HE establishment in the 21st century.

The University is seeking to recruit two additional fixed-term Information Officers. The Information Officer (“IO”) role is central to ensuring the University meets its data protection, records management and freedom of information obligations across academic and business operations to ensure compliance with data protection law and freedom of information legislation. The IO role is responsible for the efficient and accurate handling of requests for information under relevant legislation, together with the contribution to the development, improvement and maintenance of associated tools and processes. This responsibility is across the request lifecycle, including logging the query, liaising with appropriate staff throughout the University in order to obtain related documents, considering the application of appropriate exemptions and drafting and sending the response to the applicant.

The two fixed term IOs may also work across the Information Governance Office to carry out a variety of administrative activities required within the role scope; in particular, these two roles will contribute to the delivery of new systems and processes to aid future compliance as part of the University’s GDPR programme with regard to management of information assets across the University and the maintenance of records of processing activities using the supporting processes and software tools.

The successful candidates must ensure that they are up to date with the latest knowledge and regulatory changes that are applicable to the role and responsibilities.
