The University is seeking to recruit an additional Information Governance Officer (“IGO”) which is a business and technology focused role which requires ambition and focus to drive through the transformation required by an evolving institution against a background of increasing regulatory focus on Data Protection/GDPR, transparency, competition, globalisation and a rapidly evolving threat horizon, especially in the Information Security space.

Working alongside the existing IGOs, the IGO’s are responsible for supporting and helping protect the University Faculties, Schools, Professional Service (PS) and Cultural Institute functions by providing expert and responsive support services. Drawing upon prior experience in delivering Information Governance initiatives he/she will take information security, data protection and records management action items and work with academic and business stakeholders to ensure that these items are delivered in accordance with the programme plan and business as usual requirements.

The role of IGO (Information Governance Training and Awareness, Research and Contracts) under the direction of the Head of Data Protection, will provide expert, pragmatic, and targeted data protection support, guidance and training to the University’s Faculties, Schools, Institutes and Professional Services (PS) functions, in accordance with the relevant legislation, University information governance, policies, standard operating procedures and technical security standards. Targeted support will also be provided to staff and students involved in research activities. Additionally, it will also work closely with procurement and legal teams in order to ensure that contracts are given appropriate information governance consideration coupled with periodic audits and reporting against agreed operational IG requirements.
