Interview Date:      To be confirmed

The Algal Biotechnology Research Group is dedicated to a coordinated research effort in algal biotechnology, with all necessary cultivation facilities and expertise. It has an excellent record of quality output since 2013 when it was first established, and recently co-ordinated a €10m FP7-funded project, the D-Factory (11 industries) for a demonstration microalgae biorefinery based on Dunaliella. It recently contributed to an evidence review report on macro- and micro-algae in November 2017 for the Scientific Advisory Mechanism of the European Commission, which was aimed at informing Policy on the topic Food from the Oceans, and will be developing food and feed from both macro- and micro-algal biomass in a new Interreg 2Seas project “Valgorize” (Valorisation of algae for a better taste, Jan 2019 –March 2022).

We are now seeking to appoint a high quality early career researcher (AC1) to join the Algal Biotechnology Research Group within the university to conduct research on microalgal biomass leading to its valorization for food under the remit of the Valgorize project. Successful candidates will be appointed for a period of three years starting ideally no later than 1st March 2019.

Key elements of the selection process will be the candidate’s personal research track record and the alignment of the candidate’s research interests with the strategy, interests and facilities in the Algae Biotech Group

Deadline for applications is Friday 08 February 2019
