RESEARCH MANAGER, Abdul Latif Jameel Water and Food Systems Lab (J-WAFS), to play a core role in a new study on the climate/water/agriculture nexus. Will coordinate a study on the future of food security in the context of climate change.  Will carry out and oversee integrative research, with a specific focus on assessing adaptation and remediation strategies including emerging technologies, economic and policy strategies, and research and funding needs; work with J-WAFS senior leadership and director of external relations to identify stakeholders from the academic and government research communities, government decision makers, climate change/food/water NGOs, ag-tech companies and investors, and international finance organizations; support the development and execution of high-level stakeholder workshops; draft agendas and documents to serve as the basis for workshop discussions; publish working papers and serve as editor of final report; and assist with developing and executing an outreach and communications strategy to deliver the study to the research, investment, and policy communities.

The position offers an opportunity to make a significant impact in the development of strategies to position our agriculture and food systems for sustainability in the face of climate change. Climate change adaptation and mitigation is an important institutional priority for MIT.  

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: 

Ph.D. in a relevant field, i.e., climate modeling, agronomics, environmental or agricultural science or policy, or related discipline; strong qualitative and quantitative research skills; exceptional written and oral communication skills; at least five years’ experience related to climate and/or agriculture; and in-depth knowledge of climate change, agriculture, and/or food/water security. Experience with scenario analysis would be a plus, as would experience with stakeholders in the climate/agriculture space.

There may be occasional domestic and international travel. This is an eighteen-month appointment, with the potential for extension depending on funding.  Job #17021
