Working at MIT offers opportunities, an environment, a culture – and benefits – that just aren’t found together anywhere else. If you’re curious, motivated, want to be part of a unique community, and help shape the future – then take a look at this opportunity.

TECHNICAL ASSOCIATE I, Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Lab (CSAIL)-Kellis Lab (2 openings), to work at the interface of computational and experimental work seeking to dissect the mechanisms underlying human disease genetics, experimentally validate and refine biological hypotheses, and generate new datasets for computational analysis. Applications include several human diseases, specifically neurodegenerative, neuropsychiatric, immune, and cancer.  Will perform gene knockdowns and knockouts, molecular and cellular screens, regulatory element perturbations, CRISPR-Cas9 genome editing, and cellular assays; and carry out molecular assays including chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP-seq), assay of transposase accessible chromatin (ATAC-seq), RNA sequencing (RNA-seq), massively parallel reporter assays (MPRA), and single-cell profiling (scRNA-seq and scATAC-seq).  The research is expected to be presented in high-impact conferences and published in high-impact journals. Projects involve working closely with project coordinator, research scientists, and other researchers in the lab to plan project execution, prioritize tasks, and achieve agreed-upon goals.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED:

B.Sc. or B.A. in biology or related field; at least two years’ experience performing molecular biology and next generation sequencing experiments; strong genetics, molecular biology, mechanistic discovery, and gene regulation background; and excellent interpersonal and communication skills.  Must be able to convey information to others in a clear, concise manner; make decisions guided by varied and less defined instructions and practices requiring broader interpretation; and identify and select appropriate tools, data, and analysis techniques to diagnose problems and develop solutions to resolve highly complex problems.  Molecular assays experience with chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP-seq), assay of transposase accessible chromatin (ATAC-seq), and RNA sequencing preferred; as is high-throughput assay experience.  Experience with perturbation assays also preferred, including gene knockdowns and knockouts, regulatory element perturbations, and genome editing.  Leadership skills a plus.  Job #17025
