Fixed Term Contract until 30/04/2020
Post Type: Full Time
Closing Date: Sunday 24 February 2019
Interview Date: To be confirmed
Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research position starting from 18 March 2019 (or soon thereafter if a later start is required by the successful applicant), to develop advanced controllers and energy management systems for fully electric vehicles and hybrid electric vehicles.
The posts are part of collaborative projects that aim to develop new control systems for: i) fully electric vehicles with individually controlled motors; and ii) parallel-through-the-road hybrid electric vehicles. A budget for travel and other expenses will be provided, and there will be several opportunities to attend related conferences. The research will be carried out with collaborators of several industrial and academic institutions. The project outcomes will be evaluated on state-of-the-art vehicle demonstrators.
The successful candidates must have a strong background in control theory and should be a holder of a PhD degree in one of the areas of automotive engineering, mechanical engineering or control systems engineering. Also, expertise in the following areas is highly desirable:
The appointee will join Surrey’s Centre for Automotive Engineering of the Mechanical Engineering Sciences Department, which has research interests in a wide range of topics, including active vehicle dynamics, tyre dynamics, electric powertrains, vehicle aerodynamics and novel transmission systems for electric and hybrid electric vehicles.
Applicants are strongly encouraged to contact Professor Aldo Sorniotti (tel: +44 (0)1483 689688, email a.sorniotti@surrey.ac.uk) for further information.
Please note, it is University Policy to offer a starting salary equivalent to Level 3.6 (£31,302) to successful applicants who have been awarded, but are yet to receive, their PhD certificate. Once the original PhD certificate has been submitted to the local HR Department, the salary will be increased to Level 4.1 (£32,236).
