We are a truly global institution, with a reputation for education and innovation that resonates across the world, as demonstrated by the most recent QS World Rankings which ranked us 29th. A member of the prestigious Russell Group of UK universities, Manchester is one of the largest single-site universities in the UK, hosting nearly 40,500 students, and with more than 12,000 staff, we are one of the largest employers in Greater Manchester.

We are committed to world-class research, an outstanding learning and student experience, and social responsibility in everything we do., we are seeking to appoint an exceptional Director of Faculty Operations assigned to our Faculty of Humanities. With a total income of approximately £257million a year, around 17,000 students and over 2,000 staff, Humanities is equivalent to a medium-sized university in its own right.

The Director of Faculty Operations will provide the leadership and vision to support a world class environment and support infrastructure for research, teaching and learning within the Faculty. Reporting to the Registrar, Secretary and Chief Operating Officer, the Director will work closely with the Dean of Humanities and take overall responsibility for administrative services whilst providing sound business advice and leadership on key strategic decisions. S/he will lead a multi-disciplinary team of circa 600 staff via 9 direct reports across a full range of professional services. As a senior member of the University’s Professional Services Leadership Team, the Director will carefully balance the requirements of the Faculty alongside the need for consistency and collaboration with the wider University.

As Director you will be an experienced strategic and operational leader with a track record of leading a range of professional services in a large and complex organisation. Experience of working in higher education is highly desirable, though candidates from other sectors will be considered if they can demonstrate an interest in, and knowledge of, the sector. You will have advanced knowledge of organisational operations with the ability and gravitas to lead a high-performing team of experts. The successful candidate will be well-versed in broader change management and will possess a strong commitment to providing outstanding service through an innovative and dynamic approach.
