Department Of Psychology

Research
Grade 7 £33,199

The Department of Psychology is seeking a full time Research Associate for 13 months to work on a major project funded by a new award from the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC). The project focuses on the construct of mind-mindedness (parents’ ability to ‘tune in’ to their infants’ thoughts and feelings) and is led by Professor Elizabeth Meins at the University of York. You will be based at the Department of Psychology at Durham University, but will be part of a team involving researchers at the universities of Durham (Professor Charles Fernyhough, Dr Lynda Boothroyd), York (Professor Elizabeth Meins, Dr Fionnuala Larkin), and Liverpool (Dr Luna Centifanti).

You will follow up a sample of around 200 18-year-olds who have been participating in a longitudinal study since the first year of life. We are interested in how mothers’ early mind-mindedness relates to their young adult children’s risk-taking, educational attainment, career aspirations, attachment representations and mind-mindedness in relation to friends and partners. The testing sessions will involve computer-based tasks, interviews, questionnaires and taking psychophysiological measures during a virtual reality task.

For further information, please see detailed role description and contact Dr Boothroyd or Professor Meins.

This post is fixed term for 13 months, commencing 1 July 2019.

Closes midday on : 22-Feb-2019
