Job Details
Northumbria University is looking to appoint an outstanding scholar of Art Conservation to join its dynamic team. Art Conservation at Northumbria has established research strengths across paper, easel painting conservation and preventive conservation, conservation treatment development using gel and laser technologies and their evaluation by means of analysis and diagnostics through imaging, spectroscopic, mass spectrometric, chromatographic methods and microscopies. We would particularly would welcome applications from practitioners with research interests in the conservation of contemporary art – particularly legacies of conceptual art, ephemeral practice, and performance, though all candidates working with research interests in art conservation will be considered.
Vice Chancellor’s Research Fellows are permanent positions with a significant focus on research in the first three years of the appointment, to encourage the development of major projects that bring colleagues together at Northumbria and beyond.
You will hold a PhD or equivalent, and will already be developing a publication track record of exceptional quality. It is essential that you have excellent written and verbal communication skills; some relevant teaching experience; the ability to work effectively with colleagues; and the potential to attract external funding to support the future development of your research. During the first three years of the appointment, you will develop a small amount of teaching and administration, as required within a vibrant Department. After the first three years you will progress as a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in the Department of Arts.
For an informal discussion about the post contact: Professor Dean Hughes, Head of Department, on T: +44 (0)191 227 3108 or by email at dean.hughes@northumbria.ac.uk
