The Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences seeks to appoint an experienced, adaptable and self-motivated Technical Services Manager to provide leadership, direction and support to the technical teams within its School of Biosciences and Medicine. The School, with a yearly undergraduate intake of 450 students, isranked in the top 10 for biosciences by the Guardian University Guide 2019 and ranked 4th for overall student satisfaction in molecular biology, biophysics and biochemistry and animal science in the National Student Survey (NSS) 2018. The Department of Nutritional Sciences within the School was recently awarded the Queen’s Anniversary Prize for Higher and Further Education, the highest accolade for any academic institution, in recognition of its excellence in the field of food and nutrition.

Reporting to the Director of Faculty Operations the Technical Services Manager will be responsible for a team of c35 technical staff comprising technicians, senior technicians and laboratory managers. The Technical Services Manager will have oversight and leadership responsibility for developing and managing all aspects of the technical services ensuring that the School has a comprehensive, robust and sustainable model to support its successful research and teaching requirements.

The successful candidate will have a proven track record of managing and developing a team of highly skilled technicians to provide effective support to academic colleagues ensuring compliance with health, safety and environmental regulations within their remit together with providing direct input and support to research and teaching.

Educated to degree level, you will have significant technical knowledge and laboratory expertise in the relevant areas (biosciences, medical, veterinary medicine or a related field) together with significant experience of budget and resource management and the ability to contribute strategically to the development of the School and the Faculty. You will also have have excellent leadership and communication skills developed through experience.
