Vacancy Type Academic / Research Vacancies
Closing Date 05/02/2019
Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research position in stellar populations and globular clusters (GC) formation and evolution, working with Professor Nate Bastian at the Astrophysics Research Institute of Liverpool John Moores University, UK.
The goals of this ERC funded project are to 1) Test current theories for the origin of multiple populations in GCs with observations and simulations of massive clusters (both young and old). 2) Develop alternative theories for multiple populations. 3) Use GCs to constrain the formation and evolution of galaxies.
You should have a PhD in astronomy/astrophysics or a closely related field by the starting date. We seek candidates with a wide variety of experience, from expertise in observations/theories of multiple populations in GCs, to the behavior of gas and dust in the ISM and the formation of stellar clusters, as well as stellar evolution calculations including stellar rotation.
The start date is 1st March 2019 or as soon as possible thereafter.
Informal enquiries may be made to Professor Nate Bastian, email: N.J.Bastian@ljmu.ac.uk.
LJMU values diversity and provides a supportive and inclusive environment where everyone can fulfil their potential.
Please note all of our vacancies will be closed to applications at midnight on the advertised closing date, unless otherwise stated.

Investing in Excellence
With over 4,000 students and 250 staff, the Faculty specialises in Astrophysics, Maritime and Mechanical Engineering; Electronics and Electrical Engineering; Built Environment; Civil Engineering; Computer Science and Applied Mathematics. We have one overarching Engineering and Technology Research Institute and we are the coordinating Faculty for three cross-university groups: Open Labs, the Centre for Entrepreneurship and Lairdside, which provide the platforms for inter-disciplinary partnerships on a range of emerging initiatives and funding opportunities.
The Faculty is poised to make a real step-change in the way that academia
works with business, we have entered into a new partnership with the maritime industry to create a unique global knowledge hub to bridge the shortage of skills in the engineering and maritime sector. The hub will be further strengthened by a new Manufacturing Technology Centre to build knowledge and understanding about the manufacturing technologies.
