Job description

Are you passionate about communicating in an engaging and positive manner? Are you keen to motivate staff by creating forward-thinking content that demands attention and makes people want to know more?

The University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) is seeking to recruit an Internal Communications Manager with a proven track-record in leading and managing internal communications within a large and complex organisation.

This is a strategic role within the Marketing, Communications and Engagement Service with responsibility for reviewing, developing and delivering the University's internal communications and engagement strategy for both our staff and student communities. This role will also provide professional and strategic support to the Senior Executive Team and to senior staff in Faculties, Schools and Professional Services.

We are looking for an applicant who is passionate about the power of internal communications and can inform, inspire and engage our range of internal audiences through a variety of platforms. With significant experience in both planning and delivering internal communications strategies, the post-holder will have a demonstrable record of writing content for a variety of internal communications channels.

The Internal Communications Manager will also be responsible for developing, leading and motivating a high performance internal communications team and will work closely with HR on employee engagement and leadership, as well as working with Student Services to ensure that students are kept informed and engaged with the University. The successful applicant will hold a first degree or the equivalent in experience and a PR or Internal Communications qualification or at least be working towards a qualification.

Excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills are essential for this role, as well as the ability to communicate effectively with a range of stakeholders. The ability to prioritise work effectively and work to tight deadlines, as well as excellent planning, organisation and project management skills are also key requirements.

Duties will include leading on the delivery of Internal Communications plans for key campaigns and high-profile projects, as well as developing compelling content and key messaging for internal news channels and overseeing the creation of content across internal digital channels.

Providing crisis and emergency communications support, advice and expertise, including out of hours support, is also a key function of this role.
