Institute for Molecular Bioscience

The Institute for Molecular Biosciences at the University of Queensland invites applications for up to four Group Leader positions within its its Division of Cell Biology and Molecular Medicine. The Division is comprised of world leading groups studying cellular structure, dynamics and communication, with expertise spanning structural biology, electron microscopy, and fluorescence and super-resolution imaging to understand fundamental cellular processes and the consequences of cellular dysregulation in neurodegeneration, inflammation and infection.

The Institute is one of Australia’s leading biosciences research institutes and is located in thriving Brisbane, ranked as one of the world’s most vibrant and liveable cities. It is home to more than 450 researchers, postgraduate students and support staff from more than 40 countries who work in partnership with their academic, industry and clinical colleagues around the world to advance knowledge in areas including pain, rare diseases, inflammation, superbug infection, cardiovascular disease, environmental research, drug discovery, cancer, diabetes, and reproductive health. The institute also has the capacity to translate new knowledge into drugs, diagnostics and technologies to prevent, detect and treat disease; and pursue opportunities in a range of biotechnology applications for health, industry and the environment.

The role

We are especially interested in candidates who are well versed in state-of-art technologies and whose work has a specific focus on the areas of cellular imaging, using optical or cryoelectron microscopy, molecular cell biology and model organismal systems that will extend and complement our existing research strengths.

The successful candidates will have a demonstrable record of strong research productivity, an ability to develop an internationally competitive research program, and the capability to secure fellowship and grant support. This role is a full-time position; however flexible working arrangements may be negotiated.

Remuneration

This is a full-time 5 year appointment, with the possibility of extension, available at Academic Level C, Level D, or Level E (equivalent to Assistant Professor to Full Professor). The level of appointment and remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. In addition, a highly competitive start-up package will be available to provide our new Group Leaders with the best possible support during their establishment at IMB.

  • The remuneration package for level C will be $115,131 - $132,753 p.a., plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total package will be in the range $134,704 – 155,322 p.a.).
  • The remuneration package for level D will be $138,627-$152,726 p.a., plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total package will be in the range $162,194 - $178,689 p.a.).
  • The remuneration package for level E will be $178,571 p.a., plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total package will be in the range $208,929 p.a.).
