The integrated structure of our Faculty enables a truly translational approach to biology, medicine and health - from pure discovery science through to clinical application and patient care. This is an opportunity for a highly motivated and passionate mucosal immunologist to work on a full-time funded project, exploring the regulation of inflammation at mucosal barrier tissues. The successful candidate will be a Research Associate in the laboratory of Dr. Matthew Hepworth in the newly formed Lydia Becker institute of Immunology and Inflammation, within the Faculty of Biology, Medicine and Health (FBMH) at the University of Manchester.

Your principal duties will be to plan and conduct a research program exploring the regulation of inflammation at mucosal barrier surfaces – in particular interactions between immune cells and the microbiota, diet and metabolites. You will pursue your research objectives in a rigorous and efficient manner and present your findings via peer-reviewed publications and oral presentations.

You must hold a PhD (or expect to obtain one shortly) in a biological science, have theoretical and practical experience in immunology and have the ability to independently manage a research project. Expertise in flow cytometry, in vivo models, primary immune cell isolation and cell culture are essential. You should have a good publication record, and preferably hold a Home Office License.

The position will be for an initial period of 2 years with the possibility of extension. The start date is flexible, but preferably within 1-3 months of interview.

Successful candidates may be subject to pre-employment screening carried out on our behalf by a third party. The offer of employment will be dependent on the successful candidate passing that screening. Whilst you will be required to provide express consent at a later stage, by continuing with your application now you acknowledge that you are aware that such screening will take place, and agree to take part in the process.
