The Graduate School of Education at Stanford University seeks a Communications and Events Associate for the Development and Research in Early Mathematics Education (DREME) program. Founded in 2014 by Professor Deborah Stipek, DREME is a national network of scholars who engage in collaborative research and development to improve young children’s opportunities to learn math. The Network meets four times a year at various locations throughout the U.S. to facilitate collaboration and synergy among projects.  During the interim, Network members and affiliates collaborate via conference calls and email.

Working under the supervision of the Director of DREME, the Communications and Events Associate will be responsible for A) developing and executing all elements of communications for DREME, B) planning the Network’s quarterly in-person meetings and other events intended to build the field of early math education and disseminate the findings and resources created by the DREME Network, and C) providing administrative support as needed.

Under minimal supervision, provide support in planning, coordinating, and implementing communication programs. Develop external written communications and design and coordinate media relations programs and efforts. Plan meetings and events. Provide some administrative support.

CORE DUTIES*:

  • Develop, execute, and oversee written and visual communications of moderate complexity, including presentations, speeches, news stories, web content, talking points, and correspondence and social media posts.
  • Collaborate with DREME leadership to develop strategies and tactics for facilitating effective communications and dissemination of DREME’s findings and resources.
  • Design, plan, implement, and coordinate quarterly in-person Network meetings and other events that support synergy, collaboration, and dissemination of DREME findings and resources. Manage all aspects of event planning and execution.
  • Assist in identifying and maintaining professional relationships with key stakeholders, including other researchers, funders, higher education officials, community leaders, practitioners, and policy makers.
  • Assist in preparing content for internal or external newsletters/mailing lists. Understand email and digital content distribution.
  • Identify individuals/groups to attend and/or speak at public meetings or other events.
  • Coordinate media, community or government relations, and ensure logistics and preparations are handled.
  • Provide administrative support as needed for DREME faculty chair and Network director.
  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree and three years of relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Preferred requirements:
  • Major in Communications, Journalism or English.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent written communication skills, reporting skills, and skills in conceptual editing, copy editing, and proof reading.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with internal communications groups across campus.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills in working with a variety of people.
  • Capacity to write and synthesize materials and communicate information in a manner easily understood.

Preferred requirements:

  • Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, Drupal CMS, Adobe Creative Suite, and online editing tools.
  • Demonstrated success planning events.
  • Ability to establish priorities, manage shifting priorities, and handle numerous time-sensitive projects with multiple deadlines.
  • Demonstrated creativity, problem solving skills, initiative, judgment, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to accomplish goals working through formal and informal channels, with diplomacy and tactfulness.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, time management, and customer service skills.
  • Organized and detailed oriented.
