TECHNICAL ASSOCIATE, Picower Institute for Learning and Memory-Tsai Lab, to assist with creation, maintenance, and experimentation using human-induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) and embryonic stem cells (ESCs) and with manipulating these cells utilizing CRISPR-Cas9 technology. Will work with several researchers to create differentiated neural cell types such as neural progenitor cells and mature neurons, as well as complex 3D co-culture systems, from iPSCs and ESCs. Much time will be spent on the maintenance of cell lines, including media changes, subculturing/splitting, transference of cell colonies, and basic microscopy. Duties will include creating specialized media formulation and maintaining an inventory of stem cell reagents and stock chemicals; preparing specialized culturing surfaces and maintaining a well-organized inventory of cell lines stored in liquid nitrogen; and routine stem cell core maintenance.

REQUIRED: bachelor’s degree in biology, neuroscience, or related field; At least one year of cell culture experience; Excellent sterile technique; meticulous attention to detail; flexibility; ability to implement and evaluate novel technical approaches as new protocols are constantly being published for the creation of neural cells from human stem cells; self-motivation; strong organizational skills; and comfort working independently and in a team-oriented environment. Experience in epifluorescent and confocal microscopy would be an advantage. Job #16982
