The Andlinger Center for Energy and the Environment at Princeton University invites applications for the Gerhard R. Andlinger Visiting Fellows Program, with a start date as early as September 2019. The visiting fellows program is designed to attract distinguished visitors who will enrich research and/or teaching missions of the Andlinger Center.

Applicants must propose a set of activities designed to enrich teaching and/or research at the Andlinger Center that go beyond contributing to the visitor's career development, research, teaching, and/or advancing a collaborator's research. Examples include:

  • Collaboration with one or more Andlinger Center associated faculty and/or research members on topics that are aligned with the mission of the Andlinger Center.
  • The visitor guest lectures and/or teaches an Andlinger Center energy studies (ENE) or ENE-cross-listed course, with the goal of having the course material absorbed into a permanent ENE or ENE-cross-listed course ensuring sustained benefit for Princeton students. All teaching appointments require approval by the Office of the Dean of the Faculty.
  • The visitor presents a series of talks on areas of interest to a broad spectrum of Andlinger Center associated faculty, researchers and students, and/or organizes/participates in workshops, through which the visitor helps augment the conversation around one of our research thrusts:
    • built environment, transportation + infrastructure;
    • electricity production, transmission + storage;
    • fuels + chemicals;
    • environmental sensing + remediation;
    • decision science, policy + economics.

Applications from visitors with expertise in the energy/environment sector, from a variety of backgrounds, including industry, government, academia, and/or non-governmental organizations, are encouraged.

Teaching

  • While visitors are not required to teach, a visitor may be asked to teach an approved course in his/her area of expertise. Course proposals are subject to the approval by the Director and the Dean of the College. Minimum enrollment requirements and course related university policies will apply including approval of the teaching appointment by the Dean of the Faculty.
  • Visitors are encouraged to offer guest lectures in Andlinger Center courses under course code ENE or in ENE cross-listed undergraduate and graduate courses.

Application Process:

  • Application materials due by March 1, 2019 for an appointment starting as early as September 1, 2019.
  • Applicants are encouraged to discuss and coordinate plans with Andlinger Center associated faculty and senior researchers.
  • Applicants must identify a Princeton sponsor who will submit a letter of support. Princeton sponsor will be asked by the Andlinger Center to highlight the candidate's unique attributes and outline of proposed activities during the visitor's stay.
  • Applicants will be requested to submit the following materials:
    • CV, including a list of publications or professional accomplishments.
    • Proposal of planned activities.
    • List of potential collaborators with a brief description of collaborative activity.

Duration & Funding

  • Nominal duration for the visit is one academic semester; shorter or longer appointments will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
  • Fellows coming without the financial support of their regular employer will be offered full stipend based on experience and/or rank, as determined by the Office of the Dean of Faculty. In accordance with university policy, employment and salary verification is required of all appointees.

The Office of the Dean of the Faculty determines salary on the basis of current academic rank and award duration; appointment rank at Princeton is determined on the basis of credentials, seniority and current institutional affiliation.
