SENIOR FINANCIAL OFFICERInstitute for Medical Engineering and Science (IMES), to provide effective management of all IMES- and Health Sciences and Technology (HST) Program-related financial activity, including all sponsored, non-sponsored, and general accounts administered through IMES and HST, both at MIT and the Harvard Medical School (HMS). Will report to the IMES assistant director (AD) for administration and supervise Finance Office staff. Will work with the AD on the development, consistency, and implementation of the overall IMES accounting and financial management methodology and infrastructure, including transactions and reconciliations between MIT and HMS; effectively administer sponsored research activity, prepare annual institution budgets, and handle day-to-day transactions and closing activities; provide financial reports, summaries, analysis, forecasts, and resource needs assessments; coordinate with HST staff at MIT and HMS to ensure proactive and effective financial planning and monitoring in the areas of program administration, student support funding, course budgeting, and training grants; and create, enhance, and employ infrastructure and controls to ensure compliance with policies and procedures and make recommendations regarding fiscal policies, plans, and strategies. 

Job Requirements

REQUIRED:  bachelor’s degree (master’s preferred); at least seven years’ experience in the preparation of sponsored research proposals, financial management, accounting, budgeting, and/or fiscal administration; supervisory experience; ability to work in a complex environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously; excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills; meticulous attention to detail and accuracy; ability to work independently and with others, set goals and objectives, meet deadlines, and present solutions to complex problems; experience with SAP, Kuali Coeus, Cognos, Brio, and Excel; and an aptitude for learning new systems quickly.
