The ANU Coral Bell School of Asia Pacific Affairs (Bell School) is a world-leading centre for research, education, and policy analysis on international and Asia Pacific politics, security, diplomacy, and strategic affairs. The School comprises a number of vibrant, interdisciplinary, intellectual communities: the Department of International Relations, the Strategic and Defence Studies Centre, the Asia Pacific College of Diplomacy, the Department of Political and Social Change, and the Department of Pacific Affairs. 

Located in the Bell School, The Strategic and Defence Studies Centre (SDSC) is seeking a world-class senior academic with expertise in Australian strategic and defence policy, Asia Pacific strategic trends, global strategic developments, military operations, strategic theory, and/or defence and strategic history.

The Principal (MDSP) will be based primarily at the Australian Defence College at Weston Creek, where they will lead the development, delivery and management of SDSC's educational programs there.  

The current contract with Defence is until the end of 2021. The successful applicant will play a significant role in the contract renegotiation.  The role of Principal (MDSP) is based on continuation of the contract, but there will be an underlying continuing role as Associate Professor (level D) or Professor (Level E) within SDSC.

The appointment will be at the Academic Level E or Academic Level D, depending on the attributes and experience of the successful applicant.
