Associate Professor or Professor in Physical Chemistry Discipline

The School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering of Nanjing University is amongst the oldest colleges and departments in China. The Chemistry Department can be traced back to 1920, and was later amalgamated by the Chemistry Department of the former Central University and the Chemistry Department of the former Jinling University. The School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering of Nanjing University was set up in 1996, and is now composed of three departments: Chemistry, Chemical Engineering and Polymer Science and Engineering. The school has 125 faculty members among them 101 full professors, 4 members of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, 8 Chang Jiang Scholars Chair Professors, 19 Awardees of The National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars. The school has a student body of about 1,430, of which are 430 undergraduate students and near 1000 MSc and Ph.D. students.  

The school has four state key disciplines, and hosts the State Key Laboratory of Coordination Chemistry, the State Key Laboratory of Analytical Chemistry for Life Science, the Key Laboratory of Mesoscopic Chemistry of Ministry of Education and the Key Laboratory of High Performance Macromolecule Materials and Technology of Ministry of Education. It is authorized to confer degrees in 1 Ph.D. programs, 1 master programs and 2 undergraduate programs.

The school has a strong tradition in research. Over 40 members of the Chinese Academy of Sciences once studied or worked in the school. More than 140 awards including the National Science Award and the Ministerial and Provincial Awards have been won by the school. It has become one of the most attractive and competitive bases for personnel cultivation and scientific research in the country. 

The school has established extensive international cooperation and academic exchanges with foreign institutions. It has hosted and sponsored the “25th International Congress on Coordination Chemistry” and a number of international conferences, symposiums and workshops on various topics. Many world leading chemists including several Nobel laureates have been invited to present lectures. Faculty members have been regularly invited to give plenary and keynote talks in the international conferences and symposiums.

Found in 1952, Physical Chemistry became one of the earliest disciplines authorized by the Education Ministry of China to confer Ph.D. degrees at 1982. It was also appraised as the State Key Discipline in 1988 and 2001, respectively. Major research fields: Theoretical & Computational Chemistry, Catalysis Chemistry, Mesoscopic Materials Chemistry, Self-assembled Membrane Chemistry and Porous Materials Chemistry.

The successful candidates will be expected to conduct independent academic work, obtain external funding, and engage in teaching and public service duties.
