The City University of Macau is now inviting applications for the following position:

Institute for Research on Portuguese-speaking Countries (IROPC) is a faculty-level academic unit doing academic research, postgraduate education and publishing.  Through inviting local and international famous scholars, and organizing high-level academic forums, IROPC mainly focuses on the studies in “Belt and Road” and Macau’s construction, as well as the relationship between Macau and Portuguese-speaking countries and regions. IROPC is a distinctive think-tank platform and base of national and regional studies in Macau.

Job Description
Candidates are expected to contribute significantly to the Faculty development, including teaching, research, community service and other assigned work. Successful candidates will be responsible in the duties including: (i) developing and teaching courses in our dynamic graduate programs; (ii) supervision and coordination of students’ theses and dissertations; and (iii) engaging actively in research and academic activities.


  • Candidates should possess a PhD degree in World History, International Relations, Politics, Diplomacy or relevant fields.
  • Experience in applying or operating research projects. 
  • At least 1 year’s experience of teaching courses in relevant fields. 
  • Professional expertise in the following areas: History of Sino-Western Cultural exchange, Macau History, or National Studies on Portuguese-speaking countries including Brazil, Mozambique, Angola, Portugal, Guinea-Bissau, East Timor, Cape Verde, and São Tomé e Príncipe.
  • Evidence of publication potentials in the expertise areas.
  • Excellent commitment to the teamwork of the Faculty and University.
  • Excellent command of English, Cantonese, Mandarin and Portuguese with the ability to communicate effectively in Chinese, Cantonese and English. 

The remuneration and appointment rank offered will be competitive and commensurate with the successful applicants’ academic qualifications, current position and professional experience. The compensation/benefits are competitive. Currently, the highest marginal personal tax rate in Macao is 12%. But the effective tax rate is around 5% to 7% after various discretionary exemptions.
