Postdoctor in Process Metallurgy
About the position
Post Doctor fellowship in process metallurgy is hence available at the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, NTNU. Candidates with strong interest in metallurgical processes holding PhD degree in materials science, physical chemistry, or a related field are invited to apply. The Post Doctor will be a part of a research group of about 20 PhD’s and Post Doctors as well as researchers from other companies like SINTEF.

The task of the Post Doctor wil be to study slags from Mn-ferroalloy production and slags TiO2 slags. Liquid slag is the medium that determines many of the operational parameters during the production processes. Slag structures will be measured through Raman spectroscopy, and then compared with properties like viscosity, density, electrical resistivity.
The Post Doctororal fellow must have a background within high temperature metallurgical processes within the Mn-ferroalloy production and/or TiO2-production. Experience with high temperature experimental work is required. Knowledge of industrial production of Mn-ferroalloys and/or TiO2 slags is also an advantage. In addition, an experimental background within the area of liquid slags will also be advantageous. The project will require the use of different equipment and furnaces, commercial thermodynamic software, and advanced materials characterization technique.
The candidate must be able to work independently and progress in the research work by own achievements. He/she must be creative in solving experimental challenges. It is expected that the candidate has a strong research-ethical approach. A fundamental part of the work will be the reporting of the results, and the candidate must be experienced in writing journal articles. All applicants must be able to communicate fluently in English (in speaking and writing).The primary workplace will be Department of Materials Science and Engineering, NTNU, Trondheim, Norway. The appointment of the Post Doctor will be made according to Norwegian guidelines for universities and university colleges and to the general regulations regarding university employees.

A Post Doctortoral research fellowships is a qualification position in which the main objective is qualification for work in academic positions. Completion of a Norwegian doctoral degree in material science, chemistry or similar areas or corresponding foreign doctoral degree recognized as equivalent to a Norwegian doctoral degree is required.

Salary and conditions
Postdoctoral candidates are remunerated in code 1352, and are normally remunerated at gross from NOK 515 200 before tax per year. From the salary, 2 % is deducted as a contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund. The period of employment is two years.
Appointment takes place on the terms that apply to State employees at any time, and after the appointment you must assume that there may be changes in the area of work.
