Special Scientist in Communication Networks
European Union funded FET (Future Emerging Technologies) VISORSURF Project.
The Networks Research Lab, Department of Computer Science, University of Cyprus, announces one post‐doctoral Special Scientist position. Applications are invited for a full‐ time research position (Postdoctoral Special Scientist) in the Networks Research Laboratory (NetRL, www.NetRL.cs.ucy.ac.cy) of the Department of Computer Science at the University of Cyprus (UCY). The successful applicant will join the 6 million Euro EU funded H2020 Future Emerging Technologies (FET OPEN) project VISORSURF (http://www.visorsurf.eu/), (3% success rate). The successful applicant will work closely with Professors Ian F. Akyildiz (Georgia Tech, USA), and Andreas Pitsillides (University of Cyprus).
VISORSURF combines a network of controllers and Metasurfaces to create objects with software‐defined electromagnetic behavior. This opens up novel applications in communications, including engineered GhZ and Thz (e.g. mmWave in 5G) communication channels, as well as in other diverse fields. The successful applicant is expected to carry out basic research in ground‐breaking novel applications such as the formation of novel Programmable Wireless Environments (e.g. see https://arxiv.org/pdf/1806.01792.pdf, DOI:10.1016/j.adhoc.2018.11.001).
The project is coordinated by FORTH, Crete, Greece. Other partners include UCY, Cyprus, Fraunhofer IZM, Germany, SignalGenerix Ltd, Cyprus, NanoNetworking Center of Catalunya‐ UPC‐N3CAT, Spain, and Aalto University, Finland.
We are seeking a highly‐motivated researcher with a PhD degree in the Communication and Networking area, with proven mathematical analysis skills, preferably in communication channels/systems.
The position is on a contract basis of one year, with a possibility for renewal until the end of the project (July 2020). Starting date is negotiable, preferably in January 2019.
The monthly salary is between 2500 to 3500 Euro, dependant on qualifications. From this amount employer and employee contributions to the various governmental funds will be deducted. There is no provision for 13th salary.
