The Centre for Defence Chemistry has been working on propellants, explosives and pyrotechnic research for decades. We are interested in all aspects of defence manufacturing, vulnerability, combustion, and life assessment of energetic materials.

Role Description

The main duties of this role include:

  • Organising and providing technical support to the formulations team to achieve targets set by a Defence contractor and act as the point of contact for mixing and pressing of explosive formulations
  • Supporting the research carried out by the scientific staff
  • Organising the maintenance and servicing of the equipment used in the processing facility
  • Providing technical support to the formulations team with the delivery of a range of research programmes, in particular with the ongoing collaboration with the current contractors, but also in support to other external and internal projects (including MSc supervision) when necessary

The post holder will be required to work both proactively and reactively to assist with the delivery of technical support required for delivery of contracts.

A HND/A level/B Tec/in appropriate technical area is essential and experience in a relevant technical/scientific role.

The post holder will be familiar with COSHH, Risk Assessment and SOP and have an understanding of mechanical/hydraulic/pneumatic systems.

It would be desirable for the post holder to have an appropriate level of operational understanding of explosive processing methods but training will be given.
