Job description

The University of Central Lancashire wishes to recruit a Workshop Technician to join our Technical Services team who provide support to the Workshop facilities and our Construction and Civil Engineering programmes. The successful candidate will be primarily focussed on supporting undergraduate classes, research and IGA activities within our construction industry/architecture facilities. This post will play an integral role in the expansion of support for not only civil engineering and mechanical engineering subject areas, but the wider university.

The role holder will also be required to undertake general equipment maintenance and safety checks, equipment inventory checks and updates, as well as providing advice as required. It is therefore essential, to have experience of working in and/or supporting relevant laboratory/workshop environments including the practical use of laboratory/workshop equipment.

The successful candidate will be naturally inquisitive and will possess a range of relevant skills and experience, which they will be enthusiastic to apply in a variety of different applications. They will have the ability to work with initiative and independently, to set priorities and to work co-operatively within a diverse team.

The successful post holder will have a Degree, or HNC/HND level qualifications in either Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experiential learning in a related discipline, e.g. a material test house.

The ability to adapt your knowledge and experience to support staff and students across the wide range of subject disciplines we support would be an advantage. Applicants must also have good verbal and written communication skills.
