LIBRARY ASSISTANT II, MIT Libraries-Access Services Team, to assist with all circulation, reserves, and service desk operations; physical space management; and use of equipment and systems. Will open/close the library; report facilities and safety incidents/issues; participate in book searching, shelving, collecting statistics, handling financial transactions, operating equipment, sorting and delivering materials, and identifying opportunities for service improvements; perform some materials processing; work with staff to resolve problems, correct errors, and maintain the physical condition of the collections; help train staff in policies/procedures/technology; contribute to developing documentation and training materials; and perform other duties as assigned. May process course reserves, assist with hiring/training/directing student assistants, monitor other service points and/or deliver library materials via van, and participate on committees/teams/groups or projects.

Job Requirements
REQUIRED: six-months’ direct/related experience that provides an understanding of library or service functions; experience with automated library systems and standard software (e.g., MS Office, e-mail, calendar); ability to generate reports, work with data, and master new software/systems/technology and assist others in their use; strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills; commitment to delivering high-quality customer service; ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a service team; ability to interact effectively with a diverse group of people; ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines; well-developed problem solving skills; ability to work under pressure and tolerate ambiguity; initiative and flexibility; ability to lift 40 lbs., move boxes, shelve materials, and push book trucks; and tolerance for exposure to dust. Experience in an academic/research library or working with Aleph, ILLiad, and/or RAPID ILL preferred; as is experience compiling and managing data and using social media tools, e.g., WordPress. This is a full-time, 35 hour/week position. The schedule is Sunday through Thursday 3:00 to 11:00 P.M. or 4:00 P.M. to 12:00 A.M. 12/3/18
