Carleton University invites nominations and applications for the position of Dean, Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Affairs.

Located in Ottawa, Carleton University has grown to over 30,000 full- and part-time students (including more than 4,000 graduate students) from more than 150 countries around the world, 950 academic faculty and over 2,000 staff. Carleton is a values-driven institution that is innovative, deeply interdisciplinary and committed to developing solutions to real-world problems by pushing the boundaries of knowledge and understanding, and working across fields in unique ways. Since 2008, the University has launched 74 new academic programs aligned with Carleton’s research strengths, including the environment, health, digital and information technologies, global affairs, business, entrepreneurship and governance. Graduate and undergraduate enrolments have been growing at a pace above the provincial average, and Carleton’s research profile continues to grow nationally and internationally. Further information may be found at www.carleton.ca

Reporting to the Provost and Vice-President (Academic), the Dean will be a visionary and dynamic leader for graduate studies and postdoctoral affairs at Carleton University. They will have the ambition and enthusiasm to build on the positive momentum already enjoyed in Graduate and Postdoctoral Affairs, and will bring new initiatives to life to continue to enhance the graduate student experience.

The ideal candidate will be a strong academic, appointable at the rank of full professor, and will have a deep commitment to graduate students, and a record of championing initiatives to enhance the graduate and postdoctoral student experience. The Dean will bring experience in forging relationships across the campus, and work collaboratively with the deans, the Vice-President (Research and International) and others in senior administration to enhance graduate studies and the research agenda of the university. The Dean will have an interest in, and excitement about, the broad range of disciplines and scholarly approaches to be found within Carleton University.

Carleton University is committed to fostering diversity within its community as a source of excellence, cultural enrichment, and social strength. We welcome those who would contribute to the further diversification of the university including, but not limited to: women; visible minorities; First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples; persons with disabilities; and persons of any sexual orientation, gender identity and/or expression. Carleton understands that career paths vary. Legitimate career interruptions will in no way prejudice the assessment process and their impact will be taken into careful consideration.

Applicants selected for an interview are asked to contact the consultant as soon as possible to discuss any accommodation requirements.

Arrangements will be made in a timely manner. All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, Canadians and permanent residents will be given priority. Consideration of candidates will begin in January 2019, with the Dean to take office in the summer of 2019. Inquiries or applications should be directed in confidence to carletonfgpa@odgersberndtson.com
